A Great Start To The Season!
(Nicola Bogue 09/09/2018)
Our first game of a much anticipated season took us on our longest away trip to Macclesfield to play Moss Rose Juniors U12 Silks. Against a team that we hadn’t played before we didn’t know what to expect from the opposition.
The game turned out to be a tense cliff hanger, that for long periods looked to be getting away from us. With three minutes to go, and after a period of sustained pressure, Lucas got down the right wing and delivered an excellent cross into the box which deceived the oppositions defence. An in rushing Liam met the ball at the far post and dispatched a shot into the roof of the net that brought us a much deserved 4 : 3 victory.
The first half of the game saw some excellent football from both teams on a pitch with long grass that didn’t help either side. Witton created a hat full of chances but failed to finish them off. The Moss Rose keeper making numerous outstanding saves. Half time came with us trailing 2:1 with only a goal from Robbie to count in our favour.
Early in the second half Harry beat the off side trap and was baring down on goal only to be clinically fouled and a certain penalty would have been given had the ricochet not fallen into the path of an advancing Robbie who finished off the attack with a fine goal to bring us level.
At a point when we looked to be getting on top and pushing for a win we were caught out by the counter attack sucker punch with Moss Rose taking the lead for the third time. An attack down the oppositions right wing was concluded with what can only be acknowledged as a brilliant long range shot into the roof of the net with Mason having no chance.
Not to be disconsolate, the boys kept their heads up and played some good attacking football. We managed to draw level again. A attack down our right wing was knocked back to Brad who delivered an exquisite curling cross into the box which was finished off by Callum. With the momentum of the game in our favour the push for victory came in the end.
Man of the match, Harry. Who for the whole game remained, positive, focussed, supportive and strong. Harry guided other players with their positioning in a very mature way. Well done!
Next up is another away trip to the more local Winsford Diamonds United on Tuesday evening. We will be looking a avenge our last meeting with them where we suffered a 1:6 home defeat.
