CENTURIONS OVERTHROWN!
(Andy Forbes 09/09/2018)
The managers of Witton and Middlewich were hauled over the coals (not literally, because there were no coals at the game as they are all in Newcastle) as the league opener was marred by disciplinary issues resulting in a record 3 yellow cards being shown.
After a frustrating first half that resulted in the lesser seen 0-0, Witton turned on the rocket boosters and plundered at will in the second half. Keegan, squeezed a 4 yard smasher in at the far corner, Nathan smashed in a "David Platt-style" volley and then Elliot surprised everyone by running up the pitch to smash home a last minute penalty (his second of the season). "Smashing second half" announced the grumpy manager after the game, although the faint beginings of a smile were seen on his lips and the chief contended himself with a short statement: "I'll take that all day".
The defence of Harry, Sam H, Tom A and the tardy Theo ("me mum got lost" excuse), were steadfast and contained Middlewich reasonably well, whilst the wingers Tyler, Finn and Sam R were a constant thorn in the side of the opposition. In the middle, a snarling, snappy performance from Thomas, Ollie, Elliot W and Luke ensured Witton often built attacks from some excellent short passing and skills.
A good start by the Albs and some excellent football, which should bode well for the future.
Captain's man of the match: Lee
Managers man of the match
Magic moment: Ollie and Thomas 1-2 leading to disallowed Nathan goal.
Quote of the day: "the referee has just told me off"
