Warriors Maintain A Perfect Start To The Season

(Nicola Bogue 12/09/2018)
Our second game of the season involved a top of the table clash against Winsford Diamonds U12 United by virtue of both teams winning their opening fixture on the first day of the season.

In a hard fought game, played at a high tempo, the Warriors came out on top with a 3:2 victory.

The opening quarter of the game was fairly equal with both teams creating chances to open the scoring. Midway through the first half the dead lock was broken as Ewean was able to find Harry in the box with a defence splitting pass which was converted via a low shot passed the Diamond's keeper.

A feature of the first half being the excellent ball passing of the team on the 3G surface and the energetic wing play of Callum, Liam and Lucas who each ran their socks off.

The advantage was further increased towards the end of the first half. A cynical foul on Liam gave the Warriors a free kick deep into the Diamond half of the pitch. Finn was able to get a good shot on target which was parried back into play by the goal keeper. Robbie was first to react and converted the opportunity to give the Warriors a 2:0 half time lead.

The second half of the game continued to be hard fought with some crunching tackles by both teams. The Witton defence stood firm and was well marshalled by Cathal, Brad and Finn with continual support from Ewean, who’s box to box midfield play was simply outstanding. Our defence generally keeping the Diamonds opportunities down to long range half chances comfortably saved by Mason.

The Warriors further extended the lead when Robbie picked up the ball in midfield, danced through the oppositions defence with a mazy run before he rounded the keeper to slot home an dazzling solo goal.

The fast and furious pace of the game caught up with the Warriors towards the end of the second half. The opposition to their credit never let their heads drop despite the 3:0 score line and were able to claw back two goals.

A frantic end to the game saw some increased pressure from the opposition which required a number of last-ditch tackles, notably from Oliver to see the Warriors home.

Man of the match was Liam. Despite being victim of a number of overzealous tackles from the opposition, he maintained his discipline and gave a lively performance to his credit.

Next game is Vale Juniors Congleton U12 Bears in another away game where we will be looking to build on our unbeaten start.
