10 - 2 Home Win V Wistaston
(Howard Crompton 07/01/2019)
Goals from Ben 3 Sean 3 Luke 2 Tom 1Jordan 1
We end 2018 with a 10 – 2 win and start 2019 with the same result . . . . . Not sure what that is telling us but bloody hell it sounds good doesn’t it!!!
Those of us that saw the game know that the score doesn’t tell the whole tale. Early on Wistaston gave us a fright and they were up for a tough match.
Within a few minutes Wistaston managed to break through our normally impenetrable defense but it meant a great double save from Dylan and we immediately broke away to the other end of the pitch. Some great movement between Sean, Ben & Ellis resulted in a great goal by Sean.
Then there was a bit of drama as Ben went into a 50/50 challenge won the ball but was hit very hard in the face and ended up with a very painful injury to his mouth. We went from Fiona running him to hospital to within a few minutes he was back on my shoulder asking why I wasn’t putting him back on the pitch!!! You’ve got to love Ben.
Then within a few minutes we get our second goal from Sean as Ellis set him up beautifully. Tom Edwards had joined us for this game and was playing his normal classy tricky self that culminated in a strike from at least 30 yards out for our third goal 3 – 0. So we can all relax now can't we . . . . . . ? No way - within a few minutes they got a break away goal 3 – 1.
Then before half-time we got our fourth goal from? Yes you guessed it - Jordan!!! We’d asked him to do a job up front for the last ten minutes of the first half and he was awesome – he held the ball up, made some lovely touches for his team mates and well . . . He was just great and deserved the goal.
So its 4 – 1 and its half time so we can relax right we’ve got this won haven’t we . . . . . . . . . . .
Second half we made a few changes to keep things fresh and sent the boys out with the message that they were awesome and the plan was just to keep playing footy and our superior fitness would make it easier and easier . . . Master plan hey? They scored a few minutes after kick off - 4 – 2, we aren’t relaxed here but we are getting our money’s worth with excitement.
Then we get two moments of utter brilliance from Luke - a deft chip to make it 5 – 2 and within minutes arguably one of our goals of the season as he manages a bobbling ball with a skillful touch and volley to make it 6 – 2, two great footballing moments within a few minutes.
Now I’m relaxing as I watch Sean get his hat trick with another goal of the season possibility - as he beat three Wistaston players and then shot from a ridiculous angle – it should never have gone in but it did, so now it’s 7 – 2.
So that’s it surely - no more drama – Dean, Dave and I just said that it would nice to see Ben score as he has worked hard after his injury drama. No sooner did we say that when . . . . . . 8 – 2, 9 – 2 then 10 – 2 Ben gets his hat trick.
Wistaston are second in the league and have not been beaten like that all season – their manager was magnanimous and came and shook my hand and said we were the best team with the best attitude they had played for a long long time.
