First Summer Friendly Goes Our Way
(Howard Crompton 07/07/2019)
Excellent performance from the lads this afternoon in testing conditions. It was really good to see Jack, Aaron and Aiden make their first proper appearance for the team, and instantly they looked right at home.
The first 10-15 minutes we were a little slow - maybe it was down to the way we’d set up our formation. We were lucky not to fall behind with Dylan making some smart stops, and soon enough we started to get a foot on the game taking control of midfield with Josh and Aiden winning the 50/50s and the 2nd balls backed up by the rock solid partnership of Owen and George at the heart of the defence. We lost a few players through injuries and sickness but after a reshuffle we soon took the lead through new boy Aaron who won the ball on the edge of the Hartford box and bent one past the keeper. With some more changes due to the heat 2 subs combined Ellis bursting past the full back squaring it for the stitched up Musgrave to make it 2-0. Hartford who had a couple of U18’s playing for them never stopped testing our resolve and deservedly got a goal back with some good passage of play catching us out at the back -this time Dylan was unable to keep them out. 2-1. Into the 2nd half and we carried on controlling the game, just missing the killer pass until Ellis again with the cut back after leaving the full back in his wake somehow found its way to Aaron who rifled in his 2nd of the game. 3-1. Hartford again with their 'never give up' attitude pulled one back more or less straight from the restart somehow scoring after Dylan again made 2 world class stops - one from point blank range. As the game wore on you could see the heat taking its toll on both sets of players with Hartford almost equalising but for the ball to smash Callum in the face and at the other end Aaron just missing out on his hat-trick after some excellent work from Sean down the right. The game finishing 3-2 Witton. Special mentions to Dylan - what a keeper, George and Owen some big strong tackles made us squirm on the side lines, Olly Slaney excellent wherever we asked him to play, Aaron super strong upfront bagged himself a brace, Jack constantly caused problems, Aiden and Josh who showed composure and great energy in the middle, could name every player as they were all fantastic.
