Longest Wimbledon Men's Singles Finals Ever!!

(Howard Crompton 14/07/2019)
And in other news -
A great game today against Macc Lions in difficult conditions - warm and muggy - with only 1 sub. An early off side goal - not seen by the ref - put the Lions in the lead from the off. Ellis’ runs down the left wing couldn’t seem to find a target. Solid defending from George, Lewis and Owen prevented the Macc attack coming too close and new boy Tom was solid in all positions he was asked to play in. Unfortunately it fell right for the yellows and we ended up 2-0 after 30 minutes. There were a good few efforts from Sean which came oh so close, one bouncing the wrong way off the goalpost, but it just wasn’t happening. New boy Matty has the infamous title ‘first ever Witton player to be sin binned’ despite actually being binned for a comment made by a Macc player!! Ellis comes off feeling dizzy and we are down to 9 men, which for some bizarre reason kicks us into overdrive, and with that Tom takes on the defence to score his first goal for Witton. George is brought off with a knee problem and replaced with Lewis. Macc are unrelenting and put a good run together to see a third one past Dylan. 3-1 at the end of the first half. Second half sees a few changes - Sean battles for another goal up front, should have had it but the yellow shirts are all over him. With Macc back in our penalty box we see an AWESOME Dylan using hands and feet to keep out another goal. The pressure is non-stop though and eventually they get there. 4-1. Jack and Sean are now the up front combination to put pressure on Macc. Macc still battle on and we end up 5-1. A free kick given to us on the right wing by the penalty box sees Matty take the kick which reaches Jack’s head to see it in the back of the net. 5-2. The opposition are a little too relaxed and it gives Tom the opportunity to poach the ball and with a fantastic one man job Tom makes it 5-3. An unfortunate penalty - no blame attached to Lewis - gives Macc the final winning score of 6-3. Don’t be disheartened boys - Macc Lions are a good team - and next season we will be playing them and they will be relaxed about it. Will they get a shock when we turn up with a full squad!!! Big shout out to all players today, especially to Olly Slaney who was non-stop, Tom awesome anywhere he played, Matty q- uality, and the panther-like Dylan. The score doesn't reflect how we played.
