Under 13 - Warriors
A Fabulous Start To The Season.
(Nicola Bogue 13/09/2019)
Our first game of a much anticipated 2019/2020 season took us on a shortish journey to play Middlewich Town Youth U13’s. The game was played on the large Middlewich Town seniors pitch which was in pristine condition and the weather also played its part with early Autumn sunshine. Perfect conditions for a good game of football.
The move up to Division 2 presents a challenge for the boys and we will certainly encounter some difficult and demanding opposition during the forthcoming season. It was important that the team got off to a good start and they certainly didn’t disappoint with a commanding performance and a 9:1 victory.
The Warriors should have taken an early lead. After 5 minutes Jett raced clear of the Middlewich defence but shot wide. The Warriors were dominant with the possession of the ball and created a number of chances. However it was Middlewich who scored first, on the break, with what seemed like their first venture into the Warrior’s half of the field.
The set back of going a goal down didn’t dent the Warrior’s confidence and they soon took charge of the game. On 21 minutes a shot from Ewaen on the edge of the area just cleared the cross bar.
The equaliser came in the 25th minute. Ewaen’s through ball put Jett through and he finished with a slow shot. 1:1
Playing some exciting attacking football the Warriors took the lead on the half hour. Marcel tackled the opposition and cleared out of defence to Harry, who turned and passed a through ball for Jett to race clear and score. 2:1
Three minutes later and the advantage was increased. Lucas was the provider this time to feed Jett. Again, he raced clear before he stabbed a low shot passed the oncoming keeper. 3:1
On the stroke of half time it was 4:1. Oli ran down the right wing beating the Middlewich full back before he put in a peach of a cross for Jett to head home.
Half time 4:1
The second half continued as the first half had finished with the Warriors the dominant team.
40 minutes and Harvey made a strong run down the right wing. Beating the defender he cut a ball back to Harry. A square pass to Ewaen, created the opportunity for a shot and Ewaen finished with a low shot into the far corner of the goal. 5:1
In the 43rd minute Oli intercepted the Middlewich attack on the half way line. Oli passed forward to Ewaen and he fed Jett to run beyond the offside trap and round the keeper to score. 6:1.
Ewaen scored again on 48 minutes when his solo run and drilled shot passed the keeper. 7:1.
Middlewich were unlucky not to pull a goal back after 59 minutes. They hit the cross bar with a long range shot before Toby made an excellent save at full stretch from the follow up.
Another persistent run by Harvey down the right lead to his shot being saved by the keeper. Lucas pounced on the rebound to ram the ball home. 8:1.
The scoring was concluded just prior to the final whistle. Ewaen ran through the opposition defence prior to a square pass to Liam for a tap in with the goalkeeper stranded.
Overall this was an excellent team display with all players playing their role. Man of the match was awarded to Ewaen, who was dominate in midfield and the catalyst for the teams commanding performance.
We commence our cup campaign next with a home game against Tytherington Juniors AFC on Sunday morning. Having played Tytherington on a number of occasions in the league last season we know this will be a difficult game. Despite the Warriors winning all three encounters, Tytherington pushed the Warriors close on each occasion.
