Second Best In The Witton Derby
(Howard Crompton 15/09/2019)
The second game of the season and the long awaited Derby Day took place. Straight from the beginning the U18 looked ready and sharp, ours not looking too good, a mix up with the ID cards meaning Owen B had to wait for new ID to prove who he was. The 1st half was not our best with a slow start, conceding 2 penalties, a free-kick, and 2 other goals - the only thing to say on that half is we learn from our mistakes. The 2nd half was a different story - we showed we can play the football we are used to seeing, with these lads matching the U18s in every area, just missing the killer pass and getting caught out on the counter conceding 2 more penalties, not our day. We proved we are no pushover, with our 2nd half performance and all the lads can be massively proud, we showed fight, courage and determination. If we take this attitude into next week we can all be happy. However, our preparation in the warm up is key - we have to be ready to go from the off, and keep our heads. Aaron ran himself into the ground today in a thankless job leading the line with constant pressure, Owen B impressive in the 2nd half, Olly S solid on the right.
We can all learn from today - including us coaches. 'nuff said. Time to move on.
