Wolves - The BIG Local Derby!
(Steve Comboy 07/10/2019)
We were met by another miserable and wet Sunday morning and after a night and morning of relentless rain the game was again in doubt. After waiting for a thorough pitch inspection, 3 out of the 7 pitches were deemed playable so pitch 5 became base camp.
Todays opposition were the Wolves who were on the back of three straight defeats after a fantastic start against Vale. Not to be under estimated (there are a number of great players in their set up) we talked about the challenge ahead. With us having a close relationship over the years with the Wolves, we had a good insight into their strategy and their strengths and weaknesses were discussed and highlighted.
The first half was a fairly tight affair, the Wolves defended exceptionally well and although we created a number of chances we only managed to beat the terrific Charlie in goals on two occasions.
The second half saw us switch up a gear. Some lovely mid field play and some tremendous finishing put the game to bed by quite some margin in the end. With injury to Sam Bebbington we were forced to make a few positional changes and some players ended up in unfamiliar roles but performed their duties exceptionally.
Five wins from five is all we can ask and we currently sit six points clear at the summit.
Our parents man of the match went to the exceptional Spencer for his rock solid and assured performance. The coaches player of the match was shared between Alex and Ewan. Super energetic display by both these lads today and an absolute worldy of a goal by Alex.
Another performance of note was Tom Ball with another hat trick and another match ball, its going to be an expensive season!
