Crime Doesn't Pay!
(Howard Crompton 11/11/2019)
Crime doesn’t pay!
Our original headline was ‘day light robbery’………. But our smash and grab did not work out as we planned. This was a proper good old fashioned cup match.
We could see from the get go that Vauxhall Motors were a classy side – every player was comfortable on the ball and while they may not have been ‘dirty’ they were physically strong in every challenge. There were definitely moments were it got a bit ‘feisty’ but our boys matched them across the park. Max was tested early on he dropped to his left hand side to make a great one handed save to keep his clean sheet.
While all the Witton boys were impressive we need a special mention to the back line who were under relentless pressure for 90 mins and showed what a great team they are developing into.
However things started to slowly change in the first half and we started playing some amazing one/two touch football and we starting putting them under pressure and it rocked them! On 35 minutes we had a corner – and we always stand a chance of goal on a set piece. Who was there to tap in a goal from the corner but the legend that is Owen Harman.
1 – 0 Witton.
We took our lead to half time but OMG what a stressful, exciting and fearsome second half. We matched them for strength and aggression but it did mean a blemish on our disciplinary record with some cards being produced. We need to watch our self discipline 🙁.
But our ‘day light robbery’ didn’t quite work out and Vauxhall got their equalizer from a header that gave Max no chance. But we kept them at bay until 90 minutes but they did hit the post twice the bar twice and again our players threw themselves into brave tackles and they did themselves proud. Full time 1 - 1
We also want to thank the courage of Matty, Jordan, Owen and Tommy for making that long long walk to the penalty spot. Today wasn’t our day and we pass our congratulations to Vauxhall Motors.
