Under 14 - Warriors

Middlewich - League Cup Quarter Final Exit

(Colin Latter 15/12/2019)
With a win from the previous week against a Top 3 division 1 side it was going to be a hard ask for the same level of performance against another Top 6 Division 1 side.
The added incentive for this game (which was probably a negative as well) was the boys were up against a former team -mate.
Everyone turned up early so we could catch up on a missed training session this week. Scouting of the Middlewich team was done last week and so we thought we know what to expect.
At kick-off Middlewich set up differently from what was seen last week and the plan needed changing to adapt. A couple of players started out of position and it was a struggle to keep their usual shape but they battled with Middlewich throughout the 1st half. A corner late in the 1st half resulted in a goal for Middlewich.
We also lost Ewan just before half time after a committed 50/50 challenge resulted in him being substituted.
Second half meant we had to bring Spencer on in to the defence which meant we could resume our usual shape at the back and in the second half we looked to have much better control of the game giving Middlewich very few chances. We had a number of decent attempts with some good moves causing Middlewich problems. Fortunately for Middlewich, their goalkeeper was having "one of those games" and the boys couldn't buy a goal to bring them back into it which I think they deserved.
Middlewich scored a late second goal and to cap it all it was Jamie who scored it.
At the end of the game the boys had given their best and came up short but certainly did not disgrace themselves. Managers
Man of the Match went to a solid performance by Tom Cook in defence. Parents Man of the Match went to Charlie Lam.
The boys should be proud of sanding up to 1st Division opposition again and on another day maybe the result would have gone the other way.
