Under 13 - Wolves
15/12/19 Warriors V Wolves
(Riz Mansoor 20/12/2019)
Not the result we expected against the Warriors. Think there was some complacency that set in with the Wolves.
We played some good stuff but didn’t keep up to pace with the game. We had plenty of chances which were directed directly at the keeper, so it looks like finishing will be on the agenda in the coming weeks.
Credit to the Warriors who put up a great fight. They played some nice football passing and moving in the middle of the pitch, opening up our defence.
The final score was 3-2 to the Warriors. Our two goals came from Charlie Bently and a deflected free kick taken by Max Durejko, which hit Jack Adams on the way in.
There was a lot of moaning on and off the pitch. The boys bickering amongst each other, this was something we discussed after the game. From a mangers point of view it was disappointing to see some of the lads with bad attitudes afterwards, thinking they know everything there is to know about football.
Going forward we need to look at getting into a positive team mentality, working for each other and supporting one another on and off the pitch.
There’s basics that need to be looked at too, like the difference between the direct and indirect free kicks, positioning and movement on and off the ball. Also how to use the off- side trap effectively.
We’ve discussed and trained these things in the past, but as the seasons progressed we’ve focused on passing and moving and playing as a team. I’ve said it many times to the Wolves, they need to take personal responsibility for their own fitness and to watch some football games on the television to gain a greater understanding of the roles and responsibilities on the pitch.
We have one hour to train a week, our sessions are focused on game related play but after discussions with the other coaches we need to start team building and having days off the pitch for the lads too.
At the moment I feel like we’ve got a team full of individualism and they’re all trying to prove their points. We’ve seen spells of brilliance throughout the season so far and as parents/carers we can all see the potential of the team.
They’re an amazing bunch of lads and are all gifted. They can play a good standard of football for their age group. Some of the lads need to believe in themselves a little more and have that self confidence.
We need to remind parents/ carers and any other family members/ watchers that shouting at the lads on the pitch in a manner which is upsetting towards the lads won’t be tolerated.
If there are disputes going on that the coaching staff are unaware of, then you must let us know ASAP so we can address it.
Going forward from a coaching prospective, Mike will remain as assistant coach/ manger when I’m not there. Marcelo (Luca Dad) will be completing his Level 1 and will be another assistant coach.
Paul Anderson will remain as a parent helper with Rich Prescott and Jason Davies. We are all DBS checked which is mandatory for us to run the team, as-well as being fully level 1 competent which includes child safe guarding and First Aid.
As always feedback is welcomed and in the new year we will be looking to organise a get together for the adults to discuss the team and gives us a chance to get to know each other.
Cheers Riz
