LEGS OUTDONE BY DIAMONDS
(Howard Crompton 20/01/2020)
First things first what a performance from the lads this afternoon - absolutely fantastic!
The first league match after Xmas and we welcomed the unbeaten Winsford Diamonds to Moss Farm. For the first 10 minutes Diamonds were in our face causing panic amongst the ranks but we stood tall with some solid defending. Then BOOM!! we hit them on the counter with OB feeding Aaron who rifles one into the bottom corner - top finish. With us now in front we started to play and we were moving the ball like we know we can with some good work from OB in a new role up top creating a shooting opportunity and firing low into the bottom corner from 20 yards out to make it 2-0. Diamonds now started to up the tempo and what we’ll call a forwards tackle from Tommy in the box allowed Diamonds back in with a penalty 2-1. This didn’t stop our current mood and we pushed on with Tommy winning a free kick resulting in Josh whipping in a beauty on to the head of Aiden 3-1 at half-time.
the second half started the same as the first half with Diamonds pressing high up the field - it was only a matter of time before they got one back - scrappy to say the least ping pong in the box 3-2. Legs now starting to tirew as we were missing 4 players and had only one fit sub. Still the lads battled with everything they had only to concede a second pen with Max diving the right way only just missing out 3-3. At this point the lads had to dig deep with Max pulling off an absolutely tremendous double save. Ellis was now on the pitch giving us an outlet with his pace he pulled one back across the face of the opposition goal only for it to be cleared off the line. Diamonds applied the pressure winning a corner with was put away 3-4, soon later diamonds on the break and a lucky handball that wasn’t given resulted in them killing the game off at 3-5.
Ben and Aiden had fantastic performance at the back with Ben just shading Man of the Match. Their performance was even commented on by the Diamonds manager. Also a big shout out goes to Ellis for coming down after working a night shift.
No-one should hang their heads from this performance, all the boys played their hearts out.
