A cold morning greeted us at Congleton today and the cooler temperatures seem to have affected the boys once again as they kicked off and almost stalled from the start. Vale were definitely up for the game and dominated the first part of the first half and got a deserved early goal, This was the catalyst for the boys to start playing the way they can and began pressing hard. The contest then gradually swung in our favour with some close calls including hotting the post and some great saves from the Vale goalkeeper. Eventually, with virtually the last kick of the half, Tom B managed to beat the Vale keeper to a swift break from defence into attack and we went in at half time all square which, on balance was a fair result for the first half.
The second half was completely different with the boys pressing hard from the kick off and they were again foiled by some fine saves from the Vale keeper and the woodwork.
Eventually though the pressure told and Tom bagged a second goal. This was closely followed by a scrappy goal which ended up with the ball going in off a Vale player. Ewan was making a strong argument to claim the goal but we didn't give it to him.
As the game went on we capped the game off with a great move with Joe send a great ball through for Tom to run onto and score his hat-trick and the final score of 4-1.
Parents Man of the Match and Managers Man of the Match went to Tom B. He is having a superb season as he has now surpassed the teams leading scorer from last season already. Currently on 30 goals and 7 hat tricks and we are only half way through the season!
