Witton VS Hartford Vs Weather
(Howard Crompton 17/02/2020)
With no league game this week, a friendly against Hartford was arranged. 11 players plus a returning Sam Robson from injury was all we had to go with. After a brief chat with the lads about how we go about our game kick off was under way. Straight away we could see the danger of the wind returning every clearance with Hartford looking very dangerous in attack but having no clear chances. As the half wore on we started to grow into the game using our ability to turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye with Muzzer being released by Owen B firing across goal and Jack tapping in the rebound after a good save from the Hartford keeper 1-0. Again fighting the testing conditions we survived a downpour of rain mixed with the strong winds and break forward this time resulting in a free-kick on the edge of box, up steps Josh to whip one in straight onto the head of Owen H to make it 2-0. Now having a steady lead and control of the game you could see us starting to move the ball really well with the forwards and wide players working exceptionally hard. We push on winning a corner and once again up steps Josh, delivery perfect, Jack out-jumping the Hartford defence 3-0, half-time.
2nd half the sun was out which made things a little tricky for our forwards struggling to take the ball down so keeping the ball on the ground was key, both teams struggled to find any rhythm with Hartford looking a little more dangerous going forward but being dealt with expertly by our defence. However we tailed off a little bit too much allowing Hartford to score - after a brilliant save from Max they were quickest to the loose ball firing in after a deflection taking the score to 3-1. That seemed to wake us up - we then started to play and take control with some really good link up play through the team, and whilst not really creating anything we made sure Hartford didn’t either with the game running to the end 3-1 full-time.
All the lads played their part today but especially the wide players in Tommy and Muzzer who worked tirelessly up and down the flanks. Great game in testing conditions - well done to all the lads and thanks to Hartford for another good game.
