WITTON GANA DE NUEVO - ¡GRACIAS JORGE!

(Andy Forbes 02/03/2020)

Witton cleverly swapped ends to take advantage of the strong wind and created chances early on. The Monday training clearly paid off….. as a long free-kick ("no"!) from Harry led to cheeky nod by Jack and it was 1-0 to the Albs ("yes"!). Calamity is never far away from this team and yet another undefended corner was headed in by a very tall Sandbach player.. probably 8ft tall. As Witton went down to 10 men, a wonderful thing happened as the team started passing with Sam H and Tommy C breaking a few Sandbach hearts with tough tackling and their midfield comrade Thomas spraying passes hither and thither, leading to the effervescent Sam R dinking in a delightful goal. Danny, still bemoaning being a left back, decided enough was enough and smashed a wonder goal from just inside the box, moments later Fin took inspiration from Danny and whacked in another wonder goal with his lesser seen left foot.

After Gary had finally got Alex to wave the linesman flag to good effect, the half time team talk could begin. Nothing to report from that so the team trotted out, sufficiently refreshed by eau de Winsford, courtesy of Alison, yes “the” Alison.

Astonishingly, Witton played worse than the first half, but there were a few highlights as Martin sporadically shouted orders from the premium, ideal spectator spot, shouting; “hey I get the shelter of the big container thing and I can stand in the sunlight”. On the pitch, 2 certain goals were saved by the wind as Fin hit the post and Jack’s clever lob went narrowly wide, whilst James cleverly used the wind to curl in a delicious cross with the outside of his boot. Despite the score-line, Sandbach were pressing and even though there were a couple of last-ditch tackles from Tom A, they eventually opened up the Witton defence to score. Nonetheless, the Albs were dominant and as Fin got dumped to the deck in the area it was left to Elliot to smash home the resulting penalty.

A good win from Witton, with an average performance. As the team legged it to the pub the manager was left to fume.. “where’s my pen and you’ve all stitched me up big time with the water bottles”.
