STORMY AT THE FORMBY - WITTON WIN THE CUP!
(Andy Forbes 27/06/2014)
Posh Merseyside parents were left stunned as their Cheshire counterparts invaded the prestigious annual Formby tournament on Saturday, a swift shimmy to the front of the burger van queue secured the grub then the Witton marquee (formerly known as the gazebo) was up in a jiffy. Parents sheltered from the driving rain with their hard-won baps and coffees as their sons shivered under the monsoon.
The sons soon got the parents jumping however, as they stormed to a first ever tournament victory against some strong teams including the regional champions Formby. After squeaking "England style" through the group stages, Witton won an incredible penalty shoot out with some fantastic goals and saves, before stunning the tournament favourites with a dominant 3-0 victory in the final.
Claims that the manager was out-shouted by an opposition supporter were dismissed by the cock-a-hoop boss as he sank to his knees in thankful prayer as the final whistle sounded.
