7TH HEAVEN FOR FANS AT SJD!
(Andy Forbes 06/07/2014)
"That was one for the neutrals" stated Chris who was Gaffer for the day as Brookvale from Runcorn descended on Northwich for a lesser seen 7-7 draw. A few cars had got lost on the way so plucky Wasps team members Will, Damien and Kieran volunteered to play and help out. Also, Alex P, Tom A and Thomas played for the under-strength Runcorn outfit for periods.....a bit too well as the Witton players played a key part in the Brookvale never-say-die comebacks.
For Witton, Keegan (2), Lewis (2) and Ollie were on the scoresheet, as well as Thomas adding 2 further goals including a historic first ever headed goal. The team was a little broken up but produced some excellent attacking play through Luke, with some great defensive actions from Finn, Noah and Elliot J...who also made a calm debut out on pitch in defence.
As well as the rugby-esque scoreline, the game was also notable for the goal construction world record being smashed as the miserably ineffective team of Chris and the manager slumped to defeat against the goals, needing the expertise of Claire, Janine and John G to rescue the day.
No awards on the day, but a special mention for the guys in both Wolves and Wasps who helped make the 9 a side game take place.
