FrodSHAMBLES!
(Andy Forbes 18/10/2014)
The even grumpier-than-usual Witton manager was seen cursing and moaning in the bramble bushes after this “entertaining” encounter as he hunted for footballs that had been launched into the dense, impenetrable jungle that lined the Saltworks ground by the M56. Opposition coach Alan was chief for the day as gaffer Graham was loafing at home, “I’ll be glad when we go to 11 a-side”, grunted the coaching maestro as he single-handedly constructed the goals.
Witton turned up on the back of a good 3-match unbeaten run and roared into an early 2-0 lead as Luke and Keegan ran riot in the opposition half. A shell-shocked, Frodsham Park managed to grab a response but Keegan inspired an incredible “Gazza” style set-up by lobbing the defender before passing across the goal to Thomas for the third. Until now the defence had looked untroubled with Tom A sweeping all before him with some more great defending when outnumbered, Noah too was looking strong and prevented a number of attacks down the right side. Despite this, Frodsham benefited from one rocket shot and then another deflection-own goal to send the sides level into half time.
The second half was end-to-end with Witton attacking strongly through as Ollie and Ewan found some space on the flanks with some nice swerves and running. Frodsham took the lead for the first time but Witton were back in it as Lewis expertly set up the Dutchman for the fourth. The tempo suddenly dropped and Frodsham were attacking harder with Alex forced into some fine saves as Elliot and Finn battled hard in midfield and Theo was forced to defend deeper. Witton then bled 3 goals, including 2 further own goals despite a fantastic low save from Elliot and although Witton had the chances to win the game, it was a frustrating defeat as the referee’s whistled warbled at the end.
Captain’s man of the match: Keegan
Managers man of the match: Tom A
Magic moment: Keegan’s set up for the third goal
Quote of the day: “Theo…. Err Theo!”
