WAIL AT THE VALE!
(Andy Forbes 02/11/2014)
Witton Wolves contrived to consign yet another winning position to the dustbin as they succumbed to a defeat at high-scoring Vale last Saturday.
Despite a loud travelling army of Alb fans, Vale were all over Witton in the early stages and it was 2 early goals and a heavy defeat beckoning in the first ten minutes, with Alex pulling of some important stops. However, the wily Wolves weren't having that as Ollie gained a well-earned penalty and Keegan casually rolled the ball in. Witton had their heads up as Tom and Elliot found their feet and were putting in some crunching tackles, one such tackle allowing Theo to cleverly spread the ball upfield where Thomas hassled the defender into a mistake and gleefully sprinted on to the ball to shoot past the on-rushing keeper. The Albs fans were almost doing a "poznan" as a highly comical period of goalmouth pinball, with around 5 efforts on goal, finally resulted in Luke prodding the ball across for his first of the season.
The second half was tight, with both teams having chances as Ewan showed some lovely skill on the flank and Finn and Noah looked calm and composed at the back. However Vale scored late on despite a fantastic reaction stop by Elliot and for the second week in a row the manager was dancing on his cap in despair.
Man of the match: Luke
Captain's Man of the Match: Keegan
Magic moment: Noah and Finn combining calmly under pressure and bringing the ball out of defence to attack.
Quote of the day: "Hey, we don't need a wall for that free kick, it'll just get in the way!"
