LARK AT THE PARK
(Andy Forbes 08/11/2014)
With carefully placed signals and guides, Albion players and fans were able to negotiate their way into the wilderness of East Cheshire today. It was only after the little old lady walking her dog spectacularly tumbled down the steep park slope surrounding the pitch that the Witton players realised...it was a bit wet.
Fortunately, the little old lady was unharmed and after a few curses (from aforementioned individual) she was completely forgotten as the teams stood silently for Rememberence Day. Both teams showed great maturity in the minute's silence.
Witton roared into the attack and pressed well going close with a couple of chances but it was Park Royal who opened proceedings despite a fantastic high stop by Elliot. It was end to end, frantic stuff as Witton squeezed two goals, one courtesy of Ollie, either side of a great overhead effort from Park Royal, followed by a cool finish into the Witton bag. Tom A popped up in the box and almost scored before Thomas headed a bouncing ball into the net. Witton finished on top in the first half however, as Keegan coolly slotted home after a square ball across the box. “Thank you very much” exclaimed the manager as the ball slid into the net and the dough/sugar-based hooded man on the opposite touchline suddenly fell silent.
In the second half Witton dominated but still needed Alex to pull off some smart stops for another clean sheet, Finn and the ever steady Noah looked strong at the back whilst Ewan was producing a splendid display of holding and attack on the right wing. As the rain swept across the lumpy moorland, Witton came up trumps in the last 10 minutes as Sergeant Wilko maraudered forward, snatched a pass across the box for Lewis to smash it home. Just minutes later Luke, released into his natural hunter-killer role toe-poked into the net for a deserved goal.
Captain’s man of the match: Elliot W
Manager’s man of the match: Ewan
Magic moment: Elliot bursting through into the box and Lewis sweeping home...a proper goal!
Quote of the day: “I’m not talking about that, I’m talking about HIM you doughnut!”
