WIITTON TO HAMMER SOMEONE SOON!
(Andy Forbes 23/11/2014)
After another "Frodshambles" the previous week, Witton stepped out on the soggy turf at high-flyers Egerton with a little bit more focus today. Chief Chris, after having successfully guided the team to the senior pitch (maybe next season chief!), stated; “that’s the best warm up I’ve had all season...do you want a brew?”. Egerton Tatton gaffer Ashley was just glad the game was on; “I’ve had the hair dryer on all night”, exclaimed the tired but chirpy managerial stalwart.
It was end to end stuff in the first half with Witton raiding purposefully down the flanks as Theo and Lewis ramped up the pressure. However, Egerton opened the scoring as the previously impervious defence was opened up and despite a despairing dive from Elliot it was unable to stop the ball from rolling in. Sergeant Wilko was having none of that as he thrashed the ball against the bar, which inspired a wonderful move involving Keegan, Luke and then Ollie, who slammed the ball into the top corner with a magnificent shot. Although Witton were clearly thrilling the crowd with their flowing football as Ewan dazzled on the right wing, Egerton were proving dangerous on the break and despite a couple of excellently timed “sliders” from Tom A,, a skilfull dribble from the Egerton forward gave them the lead before the break.
In the second half, Witton came under pressure with a ponderous period of about 250 consecutive corners resulting in absolutely nothing of any interest as the fans dozed on the touchline. Suddenly the game opened up and again it was end to end as Egerton counter attacked with speed but the “Guv” Noah was equal to anything that could be thrown at him and on the few occasions a shot came through Alex was proving strong and agile in goal. Witton were pressing hard but with little calmness apart from nice touches from the Dutch kid and despite a late period of pressure Witton were unable to force the result. “C'est la vie. Je apporte le chien le prochain match” exclaimed the increasingly erratic-sounding and anxious manager at the end of game.
Fans, management and the watching premier league scout were very complimentary of both teams with certain Witton players receiving rave reviews for their performances, especially in the first half. The Witton management team passed on their best wishes to their opponents after a hard but fair game in the true spirit of junior football.
Captain’s Man of the Match: Sergeant Wilko
Managers Man of the Match: Ollie Ollie Ollie
Magic moment: The Guvnor making great defensive decisions when outnumbered in the second half
Quote of the day: “we are going to absolutely hammer someone soon”
