OHHH GRAP!
(Andy Forbes 03/01/2015)
As the "Witton Albion Christmas Party Mystery" of the abandoned Ford Focus at Gulliver's World deepened, Witton were able to host Wayne and the Grappenhall gang at the Northwich CC Bowl today. Conditions were such that Chief Chris' fingernails were soon stripped at the yardarm of the goalpost whilst splicing a new rigging before the game.
The first half was mostly spent with the players ineffectually kicking each other in the middle of the pitch but the general dominance of Grappenhall bore fruit as the Witton defence was penetration 3 times in quick succession. Despite that, Noah was again looking the real deal in defence, with Finn and Tom providing some great decisions and calmness with the ball. Elliot was raging around defensive midfield and eventually his efforts with the support of Lewis on the right began to bear fruit as Witton attacked with Keegan making great inroads on the right flank.
The second half opened with the new additions entering the pitch and they immediately made an impression as Ollie literally terrorised the away defence and Theo was making storming runs down the left side, leading eventually to a looping cross that Luke gleefully pounced on to score. The Dutch kid nearly made a further breakthrough, but it was the defensive unit with a very classy-looking display from Ewan and Alex stopping all-comers that ensured Witton came out victorious in the second half.
A hard game in wonderful football conditions with a sporting opposition. However the stroppy one was delighted at the final whistle: "my fingers, I cannot feel my fingers, awww thank youuuu", as the sodden parents put a great effort in on the ptch clear down.
All of Witton was united in wishing Elliot J a speedy recovery.
Captain's man of the match: Luke
Managers man of the match: Ewan
Magic moment: Theo's cross for Luke's goal
