FOUR BUT NEED MORE!
(Andy Forbes 04/10/2015)
Witton whizzed down to the Hind Heath Gang (also known as Sandbach United Eagles) to be greeted by cheery manager Ian, who was strolling around flinging cones across the pitch with unerring accuracy. Witton fans hit the raffle stand hard but it was Tom A that came up trumps with a bottle of Chenin Blanc Chardonnay. Closer inspection of the prize revealed that it was from Sweden and with no offence intended to the lesser-known wine-making skills of Sverge, the management team decided to donate it to the man-of-the-match parents.
As the last of the summer wine...no sun...streamed across the pitch, Witton roared into the attack and it was Theo that opened with a drive. Despite the heroic attempts of the back 2 of Noah and Tom, Sandbach equalized. Witton were having none of it, Keegan jinked and turned and crossed with a left foot chip for Luke to nod home an excellent far post header. Despite some excellent sweeping from Elliot J Witton conceded a further 2 goals before the half time break.
In the second half it was end to end, but with Sandbach taking their chances - despite Alex puling off another great performance - and Witton squandering some good openings. The fans were on their feet as Ewan and Thomas combined brilliantly with Ollie to present Lewis with a fanstastic smasher for the third. Finn was producing some world class defensive bringing-the-ball-out-and-creating-attack stuff, it wasn't long before the ball bobbled to Sargeant Wilko who amazingly lobbed the keeper from close to the halfway line.
At the end, the Sandbach manager (and linesman) were complimentary of the Witton team, it was certainly a great open and fair game by both teams. "the transfer market is now open" muttered the Witton grumpmeister after another winnable game slipped by.
Captain's man of the match: Alex P
Managers man of the match: Luke
Magic moment: Finn bringing the ball out of defence - Rio style!
Quote of the day: "It's like Billy Smart's Circus out here!"
