RECORD SCORE AS WITTON HIT LUCKY 13!
(Andy Forbes 11/10/2015)
As the sounds of "Colonel Bogey" wafted across the NCC Bowl, Witton fans came out in force to enjoy surely the last of the summer sun...before the notorious Northwich winter arrives. "Burp" announced the grumpy manager as he quaffed the his third energy drink of the day and "vigorously denied" any involvement in the alleged theft of the Norwegian Chenin Blanc man-of-the-match-parents' award from the previous week. Congleton turned up bright and breezy despite a troubled start to the season and seemed well up for the match.
Nonetheless Witton opened the scoring in the opening minute as Tho-god-of-shooting slotted home from the edge of the box. The next 15 minutes were pretty tight but with little in the way of excitement as Noah, Finn and Elliot kept it tight at the back, "what does keep it tight actually mean" wondered a non-plussed parent on the sideline. After the first substitutions Witton put the hammer down with a clinical attacking display with Luke, Ollie, Keegan and Lewis (who produced one moment of outstanding close ball control) putting Witton 7 up at the break.
Although a few Congleton attacks broke through in the second half, Alex kept another clean sheet and Elliot was pressing hard at the base of the midfield. This allowed the attacking unit to add late goals through Keegan, Theo, Thomas and Ewan gloriously volleyed home - his first goal since December 2013.
The grumpmeister almost smiled at the end but was still seen moaning "better first touch needed" at the end. Nonetheless it was a dominant display from Witton and much deserved after the unlucky reverses of the past few weeks.
Captain's man of the match: Luke
Managers man of the match: Lewis
Magic moment: Ewan scoring!
Quote of the day: "Andy we love your music"
