Under 16 - Wolves
FrodSHAMbles V6
(Andy Forbes 10/01/2016)
"The pitch is unplayable", "Moss Farm have called off all games", "It's raining", "Surely you're not playing in THAT", "Hebdon Bridge has flooded again", "Global warming means you cannot play". Witton Wolves again defied the nay-saying doom-meisters by rolling, forking and pitch inspecting until the dismal weather was defeated thoroughly and the high-flying Wolves ran out on a balmy sunny morning to face their old friends Frodsham Town.
The first half started brightly and Witton were on the front foot, "which one is the front foot, is it right or left" enquired Alan as he prowled the touchline. Dan was on the move, producing some sublime skills and passing which led to Keegan hammering home the opener. Witton were cock-a-hoop five minutes later when Elliot W produced a bursting run forward following a great catch and kick out from Elliot J, the ball bounced around like a bouncy ball thing in a squash court and it was Lewis who volleyed home. Tom A was kept busy on the right side of defence, producing useful blocks and line-balls up to the springhtly Theo. Disaster struck though as first a Frodsham player was allowed to run from the half-way line and finish, then a somewhat offside-looking effort was allowed enabling an equaliser.
In the second half, Witton were hampering by the manager's incessant tinkering and found themselves under pressure with Alex producing some trademark brave saves, as Finn, Luke and Ewan battled gamely in defence. On occasion Witton spread the ball well up field and Ollie was able to put them in front with a fantastic looping free-kick early on. Witton then succumbed defensively when despite blocking 4 shots on the line, the midfield did not support in a goal-mouth scramble and the equaliser came. Then, three minutes before time Witton gave the ball away in defence and Frodsham were able to score the late winner.
After the game the management were too upset for comments, but the fans were hoping the team would learn the defensive lessons from yet another close defeat to Frodsham.
Captain's man of the match: Luke
Managers man of the match: Elliot J
Magic moment: Noah's fantastic touch and turn in the box to clear danger.
Quote of the day: "it was raining so much I thought the whole world would flood"
